Diagnostic Tools for Assessment During Pregnancy

At NJ Perinatal Associates, we utilize the latest technology and advancements to assess expectant mothers and their babies for potential medical complications during pregnancy. Our multidisciplinary team supports our approach of providing all-inclusive care, no matter what your medical history entails or where you are in your pregnancy. We also cooperate with your obstetrician to make sure that your pregnancy is going smoothly and the baby is developing at a normal rate. We recommend that you visit your obstetrician around once a month for the first 7 to 8 months of pregnancy.

Ultrasound in NJ

One of the most common ways for a physician to monitor the health of a baby during pregnancy is via an ultrasound. Ultrasound is used to check the size and location of a fetus in the womb, as well as check for certain types of birth defects or other abnormalities. Monitoring of fetal movement, breathing, and heartbeat is also accomplished using ultrasound. NJPA is home to both 3D and 4D ultrasound machines, utilized by a qualified team of ultrasonographers with advanced training and expertise. We will let you know when ultrasounds are needed throughout your pregnancy, and make sure that you understand what the findings mean.

NJPA and Your Referring Doctor – Our Commitment to Teamwork

NJPA has a strong commitment to creating and maintaining relationships with our referring doctors. We understand that when risks are present, stress can be added to the excitement of pregnancy. This can also be true when you are seeing more than one doctor throughout your care journey. The relationships we maintain with referring doctors ensure that all members of a patient’s care team are kept in the loop about their care and all decisions made for their health and the health of their baby. We are very conscientious of the role the referring doctor plays in the patient’s care and ensure that we are not overlapping or stepping over each other.

What Should I Be Aware of During Pregnancy?

During your pregnancy, you might notice your body going through certain changes. It is important to keep track of these changes and then ask your doctor if what you are experiencing is normal. The best diagnostic tool during pregnancy is intuition. Informing your doctor of any abnormalities you notice or experience is extremely important. Do not brush off certain pain or discomfort as normal pregnancy symptoms, as they could be a sign of a complication that will need to be addressed. This type of awareness and communication is especially important for first-time mothers, since they may not be aware of what is normal and what is not. Our perinatologists at NJPA are happy to answer any questions you have about your pregnancy.
